Quick Tip: Product Identifiers

img

Hi everyone!

For most categories, you are required to associate your products with industry-standard product identifiers to create new product pages and offer listings on Amazon. These IDs help ensure product page accuracy by matching listings to products that already exist in the Amazon catalogue.

What are product IDs?

Product IDs are part of a system of unique identifiers called GTINs, or Global Trade Item Numbers. The most common GTINs used to create Amazon catalogue pages are International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs), Universal Product Codes (UPCs), European Article Numbers (EANs) and Japanese Article Numbers (JANs).

  • ISBN: 10 digits or 13 digits. Include the letter X if the ISBN ends with that letter.
  • UPC: 12 digits. Include the digits on the left and right-hand sides of the barcode.
  • EAN, JAN: 13 digits.
  • GTIN-14: 14 digits.

Where can I find product IDs?

Look for ISBNs, UPCs, EANs or JANs above or below the barcode on the packaging (or cover) of your product. GTIN-14s appear on the shipping container.

Where to use product IDs?

If you use the Add a Product tool to list products, enter the product ID in the search bar to find it in the Amazon catalogue. If you are using an inventory file template, enter the product ID in the product-ID field.

If your product is a bundle or a pack, make sure that you add the correct product ID for that pack and item quantity rather than the product ID for a single item contained in the pack.
