Amazon killed my ASIN
Hi Guys - the other day I received an email from Amazon (one that we all get, I'm sure) that went something like 'add a list price to your listing'. So, I went ahead and added a list price to the product.
However, that wasn't the only thing that changed - the title also changed. But it's the strangest thing, only one letter changed. The first letter in the title changed from upper-case to lower-case, that was the only change. Not a huge deal, but it just looks weird having the product title start with a lower-case letter.
I contacted seller support, they said I have to contact brand registry support, so I did, and they said that they fixed the error, but in order to 'refresh' the info in their system I have to delete the product, wait 24 hours, then relist the product.
So, I deleted the product, waited 24 hours, went to relist the product - and it's gone. I try going to catalog>add product, search by product name, brand, ASIN - no results. I went to my order history, found an old order for the product and clicked the product link - dog page. Searched the ASIN on Google, clicked the link - dog page.
I informed brand registry support of the issue, and their response was 'silly goose, all you have to do is go to the product page and click the I have one to sell link'. I told them the product page is nothing but a dog page now. Up until this brand registry support has been very responsive, but now it's just radio silence - because they know they killed my ASIN.
The ASIN just vanished. Years of sales history and feedback gone. And now I'm scared to death to make any updates to any of my products because this might happen to them, too.
I'm so sick of Amazon and their sketchy software/ platform.

Try adding the ASIN you deleted as a brand new product and pick the correct category. Dont look for the ASIN in the catalog....but use the same ASIN and SKU you had before.
Everything should be preserved.

Try adding the ASIN back using the listing loader template

From this experience, is Amazon a trusted partner? 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest. ;)

This may or may not correlate.
Since I am a Retailer who purchases their inventory from recognized and Authorized Whole Distributors (that Amazon purchases from themselves to directly compete), virtually all of the Amazon listings for my products already exist on Amazon (as an Amazon Retail Team creation) by the time I actually physically receive the product.
Virtually, but not literally. There have been a few exceptions over the years.
Back when Telephone Seller Support was still a thing, I could bring the matter to a Human in Catalog and THEY could create the ASIN once I provided the appropriate info (online solicitation & Wholesale Invoice). Problem solved.
Side note: Now, ALL (100%) of THOSE ASIN's that were created by the Catalog Team have since been deactivated for lacking "Children's Safety Documentation" even though NONE of the items are "Children's Toys" that actually DO require these docs. The problem is simply the Amazon 'bot recognizing that the listing is NOT an "Amazon Retail Team" listing, and it then triggers a "Suspected Intellectual Property Violation" or "Children's Safety Documentation Required" on every Seller who has that ASIN in their inventory (even if it is Sold-Out).
Then, after Amazon ended the Seller Support telephone number, I was STILL able to create a New listing on Amazon using the "Add Products" section with the UPC code as identifier. I NEVER once was prevented at any stage of ASIN creation, including and especially the "BRAND" of the product.
This year has been different, and it now seems impossible to create a NEW listing for a UPC code that (according to Amazon's own system) does NOT exist in the Amazon Catalog.
Now, every time I try to create a New listing I am stopped and blocked as soon as I enter the "BRAND" of the product in question, no matter WHAT "BRAND" I choose.
Please note that my products are all Pop-Culture related, so the naming a definitive "BRAND" of the specific product is a VERY subjective procedure:
Example: Brand-New Entertainment Earth Exclusive Twilight Zone Mystic Seer Exclusive Glow-In-The-Dark Prop Replica, UPC code 840417110301. According to Amazon, this UPC code is NOT in their Catalog.
Now, please understand, this product does NOT come with a definitive "BRAND" attached to it, so the choice of "BRAND" is left up to whomever is creating the listing for this item.
Reasonable choices for this item COULD be:
Twilight Zone (The TV Show the Prop Replica is made from)
Or
XXXXXXXX* (The manufacturer of the product) (*Amazon software misidentifies the Manufacturer's name as "Offensive Language" so I am unable to provide it here, but you could look it up on E.E. Dist website).
While BOTH choices of "BRAND" could be considered correct, it would have be be ONE of them! What other choices for "BRAND" could be used for this actual product?
But when I try to create the ASIN for this new product, the Amazon system stops me as soon as I enter ANYTHING in the "BRAND" section, informing me that "5461: You may not create new ASINs for the brand: Twilight Zone" if I choose Twilight Zone...
And "The brand name you have entered has not been approved by Amazon." if I choose the name of the Manufacturer.
THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT DID NOT EXIST BEFORE.
AMAZON, YOU DO WANT TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF THE SELLING OF THESE ITEMS, DON'T YOU?
It seems that IF I receive ANY product that Amazon has not created a listing for THEMSELVES, then I am NO LONGER ABLE to create New Listings for the product, and it can NEVER be offered on Amazon (the World's Largest online Sales Platform).
The amount of legitimately sourced (and VERY COOL) products that DO NOT appear on Amazon, and which Amazon is PREVENTING ME from listing is getting to be a VERY LONG LIST.
To be VERY clear, these are Fully Authorized products sourced from recognized and Authorized Wholesale Distributors (Diamond and E.E. Dist.), so PLEASE no questions or comments concerning the validity of the products. Take it for granted that there is NO problem with the (1) Products Legitimacy or (2) the Wholesale Source Legitimacy.
No, this seems to be a NEW Amazon software program that has been set loose on us, and it's primary function is to PREVENT ANY NEW ASIN'S FROM BEING CREATED (unless Amazon creates them).
In other words, if Amazon isn't offering it, than NO ONE ELSE can offer it either (at least in the Categories I sell in).
Amazon, IF you are going to make SUCH a FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE to your policies and procedures, don't you think you could at least warn us it was coming?
Amazon, do you remember the wonderful days of making incredible amounts of money? It REALLY wasn't that long ago...
It was RIGHT BEFORE you decided to turn-over the majority of your functions to software so you wouldn't have to pay Humans anymore.

It's incredible how most of the Amazon platform, the world's largest retailer, is maintaining databases... yet they are singularly bad at it, and have stopped trying.

I have never deleted the listing when they told me to. I don't trust that response at all. If you are listing on an existing catalog page that has other sellers, sure, I can see it, but you mentioned brand registry so this is your own listing, your own product? No other sellers, just you? Of course it will be gone if you delete it. Whoever told you that wasn't thinking. I think you'll have to recreate.

the brand of that item is Bif Bng Pow!
Put an 'a' between B and ng above, since amazon won't allow me to type that terrible word out on the forums .... seriously.
